The SCOOTER Store’s Compliance Department Personnel Earns Health Ethics Trust Certification

There is no such thing as being too compliant in the health care
industry. Compliance is an integral part of doing business with
government agencies; and successful companies must ensure every program,
process and person meets a strict set of standards. Some people take it
to the next level.
Dave Pryor, CIA Performance Manager of The SCOOTER Store, earned the
Health Ethics Trust (HET) Certified Compliance Professional (CCP)
designation, which was presented at the Trust’s annual Best Practices
Forum on Oct. 26 in Washington, D.C. According to HET, this
certification process promotes professionalism and competence throughout
the health care compliance community. Pryor worked for the certification
through a series of requirements overseen by the Education Committee of
the Council of Ethical Organizations.
Pryor joined The SCOOTER Store in 2000 as part of Scooters Direct, the
company’s first non-reimbursed business model. He has served as an
Insurance Verification Department (IVD) Manager and IVD Service Manager.
Before joining The SCOOTER Store, Pryor served in the U.S. Air Force for
ten years, including two in munitions quality assurance. He has been in
the compliance field for almost three and a half years.
“The SCOOTER Store is dedicated to protecting the integrity of the
Medicare benefit, and the credentials of our staff are just one example
of that dedication,” Senior Vice President of Compliance and Corporate
Compliance Officer Tim Zipp said. “Our compliance program exceeds
national standards because we have certified professionals like Dave
working with us.”
Pryor also holds both a Master of Business Administration and Bachelor
of Science in Business Administration degree. He is currently enrolled
in a Certified Internal Auditor certification course. Requirements for
the HET certification include work experience in compliance, a letter of
recommendation from a supervisor, a resume detailing the applicant’s
background and compliance/ethics-related work experience, and a written
exam.
“The Health Ethics Trust established the CCP credential over a decade
ago and has continually raised the bar for compliance certification
since that time,” said Mark Pastin, Ph.D. and President of HET. “The
Trust’s Education Committee looks at all aspects of an individual’s
professional history as well as requiring specific course work and a
written exam to achieve the CCP. CCPs are expected to continue their
professional development during the period of certification. Dave
completed the certification process in record time and with great
distinction.”
The Health
Ethics Trust was formed in 1995 in response to growing ethics and
compliance concerns in health care. The purpose of HET is to promote
sharing of information and the establishment of best practices in health
care compliance and ethics.HET is a division of the Council of Ethical
Organizations, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization committed to
promoting ethical and legal conduct in private organizations,
government, and the professions.
The Education Committee of the Council of Ethical Organizations is an
independent and voluntary committee of experienced compliance
professionals (health care and nonhealth care) from around the country.
Members of this committee oversee changes to HET certification criteria
as well as reviewing individual applications for HET certification.
