‘Commonwealth Games Awareness Cycle Rally’ was organized today by Delhi Knowledge Development Foundation under the aegis of Department of Training and Technical Education (DTTE), Govt. of NCT of Delhi.
— In an endeavour to create awareness about the upcoming Commonwealth Games 2010, a ‘Commonwealth Games Awareness Cycle Rally’ was organized today by Delhi Knowledge Development Foundation under the aegis of Department of Training and Technical Education (DTTE), Govt. of NCT of Delhi. The 15-km Cycle Rally was flagged off from Rajghat by Hon’ble Chief Minister, Govt. of Delhi, Smt. Sheila Dikshit.
About 200 students and 50 faculty members from almost 15 technical institutions in the Capital, including Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology, Ambedkar Institute of Technology, G B Pant Engineering College, Jaffarpur Engineering College, Guru Nanak Dev Polytechnic and Bhai Parmanand Institute of Business Studies, to mention some and even two women polytechnics – Kasturba Polytechnic for Women and Meera Bai Polytechnic for Women, participated in the Rally, along with select officers of DTTE. The Rally commenced from Rajghat at 9 am and covered Ajmeri Gate, Paharganj, Ranj Jhansi Marg, Old Baraf Khana, Tees Hazari, ISBT, Mori Gate, G.P.O. and Red Fort before culminating at Rajghat.
Congratulating DTTE for organizing this Rally, Smt. Dikshit said, “My blessings to the students of various institutions participating in this Rally, which not just involves fun and enjoyment but also encourages sports spirit. It will motivate the people of Delhi to connect with the upcoming Commonwealth Games and take up cycling, as a non-polluting and healthy means of transportation.”
The Flagging-off Ceremony for the Cycle Rally was organized by Delhi Technological University (formerly Delhi College of Engineering) under the banner of DTTE. Welcoming the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Sh. V.K. Jain, Additional Secretary, DTTE, Govt. of Delhi said, “It is a matter of great pride for all of us that Delhi will be hosting the Commonwealth Games 2010. The purpose behind this Cycle Rally is multifold – it aims to create awareness about the Games, sportsman spirit as well as use of cycle.” All students participating in the Rally were provided sports kits by Lotto, a well-known sportswear brand, comprising track suit, cap and shoes and refreshments. Those who successfully completed the Rally were given ‘Certificates of Participation’ by Sh. Jain.
Scheduled to be held from October 3-14, 2010 in New Delhi, the Commonwealth Games-2010 will attract delegates from over 70 countries, across the globe.
