14th Annual Convocation of the IILM Graduate School of Management
— The fourteenth annual convocation ceremony of the IILM Graduate School of Management was held on November 7, 2009. The Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM), IILM’s flagship program, is an AICTE recognized program, launched in 1993 to cater to the demands of management professionals and prepare its graduating students for a challenging career through an intensive and rigorous curriculum. More than 1,300 students have so far been awarded this diploma, all of whom have been placed comfortably in a booming economy that is considered one the future growth engines of the world economy. This year, 163 students received their diplomas from Mr. T K A Nair, Principal Secretary to Dr Manmohan Singh. Mrs. Malvika Rai, Chairperson IILM presented the Dr. Kulwant Rai Gold and Silver medals to the toppers
Mr. Nair’s position is one of the most important in the government after the Prime Minister. It involves running the country on a day-to-day basis. The students were absolutely delighted as Mr. Nair interacted with each one individually, talking about their majors and final placements while handing over their diplomas. He heartily congratulated IILM at its “immense achievement” in ensuring that its graduating students got great assignments in their area of interest even before they got their diplomas in hand. This reflected the fact that the “institute has done its job extremely well”, according to him.
In his Convocation Address, Mr. Nair emphasized that the employment scenario today is undergoing a very big change, as there is a growing mismatch between the skills available and the skills needed in the job market. This is where institutes like IILM need to play a major role by providing a steady stream of students with requisite skills. India’s future holds a fantastic opportunity if we produce skilled manpower: “If India can become the source of skilled manpower it can leverage the true potential of globalization, ” he added
He was equally impressed by a handful of students who were budding entrepreneurs stating, “we need such men and women of great initiative, who will provide employment instead of waiting for one; having the guts to do what you like to do and deriving tremendous satisfaction”.
He finally congratulated IILM and the graduating students for their accomplishments.
Education must train for self-development, fearlessness of mind, integrity of purpose and strength of conscience. The mission of the IILM Graduate school of Management is the pursuit of education, scholarship and research at the highest levels of excellence.
