Karnatka High On Talent: Four Winners Share Young Achiever 2010 Award

November 25, 2010 /India PRwire/ — This year, the annual Young Achiever Award, founded by Brigade Group & Rotary Bangalore Midtown, saw a flock of talent whose efforts could just not go unnoticed. Thus, Young Achiever Award 2010 had four winners, the most talented, brilliant, sensible, gifted and young winners of Karnataka.

The 5th Annual Young Achiever award is shared by 4 winners: Pavithra, a 26-year old entrepreneur whose driving force is to provide IT and IT-enabled services with help of differently-abled people. Suraj Narredu, just 25 years old and the youngest Indian Jockey. Rakesh Manpat, a 19-year-old, the first Karnataka shooter to win an International medal for India. Achala Paani, an animal welfare activist, Founder & Managing Trustee of Let’s Live Together.

The winners of the Young Achiever 2010 award were announced at the function held at the MLR Convention Centre in J.P. Nagar on the 20th of November 2010. Chief Guest Mr Prakash Padukone (former Badminton World champion) , M.R. Jaishankar, CMD, Brigade Group, and District Governor, RID 3190, Rtn MN Suresh presented trophies , cash prize and citations to joint-winners Suraj Narredu, Rakesh Manpat, Pavithra YS and Achala Paani. The prize money for the award was increased to Rs.2, 00,000/- this year. There were 4 winners as there was separate category for sports and general category. Special mention awards and cash prizes were given to Sharath Gayakwad and Ramya K Aithal.

Pavithra, a 26-year old Bangalore girl runs Vindhya E-Infomedia, which provides IT and IT-enabled services with a difference- 95 per cent of her employees are ‘differently-abled’. With her undying determination, she has created employment for more than 300 people with disabilities in 4 years. She has received the Helen Keller Award, the Canara Bank Outstanding Person and the TATA-Tie Stree Shakthi Award to name a few. With Pavithra’s strong vision, Vindhya E-Infomedia has reached great heights and continues its skyward journey.

The 25-year-old Suraj Narredu is the youngest Indian Jockey to create a unique record of winning the fastest 1000 races all over India. A product of Bangalore Amateur Riders Institute, Suraj is the youngest and the fastest Indian Jockey. He has won 1011 races from approximately 3200 rides all over India and abroad.

He ranks among the top 3 jockeys in India. He represented India in the International Jockey Challenge held at Mauritius in November 2009 and won the Champion Jockey Award (Rising Star). He has been awarded the 1st runner up of the Champion Jockey Award by the Turf Authorities of India for the year 2009-2010.

Rakesh Manpat, a 19-year-old Bangalore based professional shooter has achieved a great deal at an early stage in life. Rakesh got hooked to shooting six summers ago, and proved his mettle in Suhl, Germany, when he bagged his maiden international bronze medal at the Super Cup event of the International Junior Competition.

Rakesh is the first Karnataka shooter to win an International medal for India. Rakesh jump-started his career winning silver in the 50M Rifle 3 Position at the G.V. Mavlankar All India shooting competition, four years ago in Bengal.

Achala Paani is the Founder and Managing Trustee of Let’s Live Together, Bangalore. She has been an animal welfare activist for the last ten years. Her tremendous strength, love and compassion for animals help her breathe life into the organization ‘Let’s Live Together’, for the welfare of homeless animals in Bangalore. The organization’s initiative Project -’Life on the Street’ promotes the concept of people adopting homeless puppies instead of buying dogs. This project has been responsible for over a 1000 adoptions, which has considerably helped solve the street dog issues.

Applications were received from all over Karnataka, including national and international level achievers, areas of achievement that were represented covered a wide and diverse variety of domains. While the most important criterion for selection was the applicant’s actual achievement, the selection committee also considered the applicant’s commitment to his or her field of endeavour and evidence of a continual pursuit of excellence.

All the applications went through several rounds of careful scrutiny and research and rounds of discussion among the core committee members of the Award. The short-listed applicants were invited to meet the jury on 30 October 2010.
